Johannes Thomae Bureus Agrivillensis (Johan Bure) was tutor and advisor of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. He was born in 1568 and died in 1652. He is known for his works on Swedish runes. In 1611, he began drawing and interpreting many of Sweden's runestones, many of which are only known to us through his drawings.
