John Amos (born December 27, 1939) is an American actor, perhaps best known for playing the character James Evans, Sr. on the 1970s sitcom Good Times.
Amos got his start in television when he portrayed Gordy Howard, the weatherman on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, from 1970 until 1973. He has also had roles in several films, such as Coming to America and Die Hard 2, and has guest-starred on a number of television programs including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The A-Team.
Amos was born in Newark, New Jersey, and is currently starring on The WB sitcom, All About The Andersons.
