John Foley - Definition and Overview

John Foley is a sociologist known for his input on many sociological theories, particularly post-modernism, for his catch phrase "Forget about everyone, have a great time, and forget about everything" which he inserts as a footnote in all of his publications, at all his public speeches, and lectures. Some claim the character "John Furley" in Mark Wilson's book (of the same name) is inspired by Foley.

Foley was born in an Irish, Catholic family, and moved to England when he was a child. After various experiences in the London 'underground' he settled down to teach in the West Midlands.

In Ireland, Foley is a common surname originating in the south east Munster region. The name is derived from the original Irish O'Foghlu, meaning rustlers.
