John Hutton Balfour (1808-1884) was a Scottish botanist. He became Professor of Botany first at Glasgow University in 1841, and then moved to Edinburgh University, also becoming Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, in 1845. The formal botanical author abbreviation Balf. is given to plants he described.
