John Popham - Definition and Overview

Sir John Popham (cir. 1531June 10 1607) was the Lord Chief Justice of England June 2 1592-June 1607.

He was born in Huntsworth, Somerset about 1531 to Alexander and Jane Popham (née Stradling). He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford and presided over the trials of Mary Queen of Scots (1587), Sir Walter Raleigh (1603) and Guy Fawkes(1606)
