John William Lubbock - Definition

Sir John William Lubbock (March 26 1803June 21 1865) was an English banker, mathematician and astronomer.

From 1830-1835 he was Treasurer and from 1838-1847 Vice-President of the Royal Society.

Between 1837 and 1842 Lubbock was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, a position later held by his eldest son, the statesman and archaeologist Sir John Lubbock.
