Unaarrimin or Johhny Mullagh (Born 13 August, 1841 died 14 August, 1891), was part of the famous Aboriginal australian_cricket_team|Australian cricket team]] that toured England in 1868. He was a talented allrounder and right handed batsman.
Early Life
Unaarrimin was born on 13 August 1841 near Harrow, Victoria.
Cricket career
Unaarrimin hit 1698 runs at an average of 23 and took 245 wickets at only 10 apiece. In 1869, the Melbourne Club appointed Unaarrimin as a professional but after only six games, he returned home to Harrow (Victoria)
From 1878 to 1879 he played for a Victorian team against a touring English XI. During this test game he scored 4 and 36. As the top scoring player, 9,000 spectators collected £50 for him.
Final years
He was a fierce advocate of Aboriginal rights, and refused to live on one of the state-controlled reserves. He lived in a rabbitters shack, continuing to play cricket until a few months before his death. He died at the Pine Hills Station in Victoria on 14 August 1891, the day after his 50th birthday.
