July Ordinances - Definition

Call Ordinances of Saint-Cloud or July Ordinances.
Set forward by Charles X and Jules Armand de Polignac in July 1830. It was intended to quell the people but actually worked opposite to this by angering the French citizens.

The Ordinances

  • Established rigid control of the press,
  • Dissolved the newly elected Chamber of Deputies,
  • Disenfranchised 3/4 of the available voters,
  • Required new elections based on the new electorate.
