Juneau-Douglas High School (abbreviated JDHS) is the only public, mainstream high school serving students in grades 9–12 for all of Juneau, Alaska, and Douglas Island. The school dates back a number of decades, and it has recently undergone extensive renovations, most notably to its main hall. The high school is a part of the Juneau School District.
Unfortunately, the school is also known for a few problems, such as overcrowding and reports of racism.
JDHS's school basketball teams (for either gender) are the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears. The girls' team is sometimes known as the Lady Bears. The teams' logo is a fiercely-roaring bear. Bears are commonly seen throughout Juneau, Douglas, and the Mendenhall Valley. Current NBA player Carlos Boozer is a JDHS graduate.
