Juniata County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 22,821. Its county seat is Mifflintown6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,019 km² (394 mi²). 1,014 km² (392 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.50% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 22,821 people, 8,584 households, and 6,463 families residing in the county. The population density is 22/km² (58/mi²). There are 10,031 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (26/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.05% White, 0.37% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 1.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,584 households out of which 33.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.60% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.70% are non-families. 21.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
