Kadabra, in the Pokémon world, is Pokemon #64 in the National Pokédex, #90 in Johto and #40 in Hoenn. It is somewhat catlike in appearance, with a star on its forehead, reminiscent of the symbol in psychic experiment cards. It is always seen holding a silver spoon in its hands. Kadabra is a psychic type Pokemon, and Sabrina owns one, in both the anime and video game.
Etymology
Kadabra's name is derived from the magician's parlance term, abracadabra.
Its Japanese name, ユンゲラー (Yungerā), is a reference to psychic Uri Geller, doubly so because of the spoon it always holds. The reference is so direct that Geller himself sued (unsuccessfully) for use of his likeness.
Anime appearances
Ash and his traveling party reach Saffron City and enter Sabrina's gym in the episode "Abra and the Psychic Showdown". Ash immediately challenges Sabrina for a Marshbadge; he and Pikachu promptly face off against Sabrina and her Abra, which soon evolves into Kadabra. Ash is quickly beaten, and barely escapes the gym with the help of a mysterious stranger. After catching a Haunter in Lavender City's Pokemon Tower (in the episode "The Tower of Terror"), Ash returns to Saffron City (in "Haunter versus Kadabra") and defeats Sabrina.
