Name origin

The name Kangaskhan is a combination of the word kangaroo and the name of the famous ruler of the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan.

Availability

Kangaskhan is available in every Pokémon video game except Ruby and Sapphire, although you can catch it in Fire Red and Leaf Green and trade it to Ruby/Sapphire.

You can catch Kangaskhan in the following locations:

Red/Blue/Yellow/Fire Red/Leaf Green: Safari Zone.

Gold, Silver/Crystal: Rock Tunnel.

Information

The infant rarely ventures out of Kangaskhan's protective pouch until it is 3 years old. Raises its young in its belly pouch. Will not run from any fight to keep its young protected. If it is safe, the young gets out of the belly pouch to play. The adult keeps a close eye on the youngster. To protect its young, it will never give up during battle, no matter how badly wounded it is. To avoid crushing the baby it carries in its pouch, it always sleeps standing up. If you come across a young Kangaskhan playing by itself, you must never disturb it or attempt to catch it. The baby Pokémon's parent is sure to be in the area, and it will become violently enraged at you. However, the "Kangaskid" is not considered an official Pokémon.

Even though Kangaskhan officially has no evolutions, in Pokémon Red and Blue, the glitch 'M (or M Block) will evolve into Kangaskhan as soon as it gains experience points or uses a rare candy.

Anime appearances

Kangaskhan appeared the episode "The Kangaskhan Kid" in which a child had been "adopted" by a Kangaskhan and carried the boy in her pouch. Kangaskhan also apeared in the animated short Pikachu's Winter Vacation where Pikachu and some other Pokémon play with a baby Kangaskan.
