The Karoo is a semi-desert in the heart of South Africa. It is characterized by open and flat land and very little rain.
Fields of local farmers (boere) can be found near rivers, where huge, round, green circles mark the crop or corn (maize) fields.
Only low natural vegetation grows here and a few species of animal life include Ostriches, Springbok and some foxes and rabbits.
The Karoo region is famous for gliding and many international visitors fly here, especially in January and February.
