Kedarnath - Definition and Overview

Kedarnath is one of the four monasteries (called "maths") holy to the Hindus. Together with Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, it is part of the Char Dham, which are visited by thousands of pilgrims annually. Its temple to Lord Shiva houses one of the twelve esteemed Jyotirlings, and has a beautiful trek leading to it. Located at an altitude over 3500 meters in the Garhwal Himalaya, it remains inaccessible for eight months of the year.
