The Kingdom of God is referred to with great frequency in the bible.

Historian H. G. Wells wrote: “This doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven, which was the main teaching of Jesus, and which plays so small a part in the Christian creeds, is certainly one of the most revolutionary doctrines that ever stirred and changed human thought.”

in the New Testament

Jesus felt the subject was so important that, in the model prayer he said it should be the second most important subject in prayer (Matthew 6:9,10). The Kingdom of God is referred to over fifty times in the book of Matthew alone. Jesus maintained the importance of seeking The Kingdom throughout his ministry.(Matthew 6:33; Mark 9:43-47)

Another Bible book which frequently references the Kingdom of Heaven or Kingdom of God is the Gospel according to Saint Luke. It is in this gospel that Jesus speaks of the coming of the Kingdom, (chapter 17 verses 20-37). Luke's account identifies Jesus as the king of that kingdom - Luke 1:31-33.

Other things Jesus said about the Kingdom:

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." Luke 18:16-17
"How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingom of God." (Luke 18:24-25)
At the Last Supper, Jesus said, "I tell you I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes." Luke 22:18
In the gospel of John Jesus states a fundamental tenet of Christianity concerning the Kingdom of God. "I tell you the truth, no-one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again." John 3 verse 3

in the Old Testament

God's kingdom in these scriptures refers to the nation of Israel. 1 Chronicles 29:10-12

What is the Kingdom of God?

There are, as always differing opinions on the subject.

Some believe that naturally as it is a "Kingdom" it is a government set up by God. Others take the verse at Luke 17:21 to mean that the kingdom is condition of heart or a state of mind.
