Kirkby Stephen is a small market town in Cumbria, in the traditional county of Westmorland, England. It is located on the A685 at grid reference NY-774-085 in the north of the area known as Mallerstang. The River Eden passes East of the town centre.
The town is notable for the large parish church, known locally as the "Cathedral of the Dales", which contains a relief of the Norse god Loki who is shown bound and chained.
The town holds weekly markets and the there are a number of antique shops located in the town, which also serves as a base for walking tours of the Dales.
