Kitee is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 10,024 (2003) and covers an area of 1,141.75 km² of which 276.87 km² is water. The population density is 8.8 inhabitants per km².
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Famous people from Kitee is Tuomas Holopainen, Tarja Turunen and Erno (Emppu) Vuorinen, or better known as 3 of 5 members of one of the most popular metal-bands from Finland, Nightwish.
