Klondike - Definition and Overview

The Klondike is a region of the Yukon Territory in northwest Canada, just east of the Alaska border. It lies around the Klondike River, a small stream that enters the Yukon River from the east at Dawson.

The Klondike is famed in part because of the Klondike Gold Rush, which started in 1897 and ended the following year. Major mining ended in 1910 athough a some gold is still mined in the area.


Klondike is also the name of a very popular solitaire card game.

A Klondike bar is a dessert consisting of ice cream encased in a chocolate shell.
