knafeh (Arabic كنافة)alos pronounced kunafah or kunfeh is a kind of sweet that is made of pastry and cheese and syrop. The city of Nablus is most famous for this kind of sweet.
Knafeh is mainly one of two types:
- khishneh (Arabic خشنة) which means rough, and this type's pastry looks like long thin threads.
- na'ama (Arabic ناعمة) which means fine, and this type's pastry is in small pieces.
The pastry is heated with some butter or margarine for a while and then spread and cheese is spread over it and then pastry once again or the khishneh kunafah is rolled around the cheese, and after that the syrop which consists of sugar and water and a couple of lemon juice drops is poured on it.
