 Kosciusko Bridge - Definition 

The Kosciuszko Bridge describes two major structures in New York. Both are named in honor of Thaddeus Kosciusko, a Polish volunteer who was a General in the American Revolutionary War.


New York City

The bridge in New York City is a part of Interstate 278 or the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. Two of the bridge towers are surmounted with eagles, one is the Polish eagle, and the other the American Eagle.


Albany, New York

The bridge in the Albany area is officially named the Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge, and carries the Interstate 87 highway across the Mohawk River. It was built in 1959 to connect Colonie with Halfmoon, New York. This is actually two bridges, one for north bound traffic and one for south bound. Both bridges made of steel, and have a Through Arch design.
