Koto (湖東町; -cho) is a town located in Echi District, Shiga, Japan.
As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 9,061 and a density of 341.54 persons per km⊃2. The total area is 26.53 km².
On Feb. 11, 2005, Koto will merge with Yokaichi city and Eigenji, Gokasho, and Aito towns to form a new city called Higashi Omi.
