Kuvempu - Kuppalli venkatappa puttappa (1904 - 1994) - The greatest poet and writer the Kannada Language ever had. He has been given the title 'National poet', and he was the first Kannadiga to win a Jnanpith Award and an immortal name in Kannada Saahitya.

Life

Kuvempu was born on December 19, 1904, in Hirekodige, Shimoga District. He was brought up in a place in the lush malnad region of TirthahaLLi, called KuppaLLi, of Shimoga District, Karnataka, state of India. He pursued his studies in Mysore. Among the prestigious positions he held were Vice Chancellor of the University of Mysore.

Awards
