Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway - Definition and Overview

The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway was a pre-grouping (1923) British railway company. The football team of its engineering works at Newton Heath, Manchester, evolved into Manchester United F.C.

It merged with the London and North Western Railway in 1922 which was grouped into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1923.
