Langar Langar

Langar - Definition and Overview

Langar is the term used in the Sikh Religion for free food that is served in their Gurdwara. The food is taken by everyone sitting as equals and was introduced by Guru Nanak Dev Ji to break the caste system that persisted in India during the 13th & 14th Centuries.

This practice is one of the Pillars of Sikhism and it is a mission of Sikhism to eradicate hunger from the face of the planet.

The Sikhs are encouraged to donate 10% (Deswandh??sp) of their wealth/time/resource to a worthy cause of which Langer Sewa is one.
