Laptop theft has become a serious threat to users of mobile computers. Different methods to protect the data and to prevent theft have been developed.

The loss consists of:

• not having hardware anymore
• not having software anymore (unless one has a copy)
• not having data anymore (unless one has a copy)
• someone has access to possibly confidential data (unless it is encrypted)
