The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics of Finland are used for statistical purposes in a European Union context. The NUTS codes for Finland divides the country on three levels:

  1. At the first level Mainland Finland is separated from the autonomous Åland Islands.
  2. At the second level Mainland Finland is divided into four "Suuralueet", "Storområden", or Large Areas. Three of these Large Areas are similarly named to three of the Provinces of Finland: Southern Finland, Eastern Finland and Western Finland, but follow different lines of division.
  3. At the third level the divisions of Mainland Finland follows the boundaries of the Regions of Finland.
