The Larrousse-Calmels Formula One team was founded in 1987 by Didier Calmels and former racer Gérard Larrousse. It was based in Antony, in the southern suburbs of Paris. It was later renamed simply Larrousse when Calmels was arrested for shooting his wife in a domestic argument in the spring of 1989.
The team's first car was commissioned from Lola and was powered by a Cosworth DFZ V8 engine. It was driven by Philippe Alliot. By the end of 1987, a second car was built, driven by Yannick Dalmas.
