Lauttasaari (Drumsö in Swedish) is an island and city-district of Western Helsinki, about 6 kilometers West of the city centre.
With a population of 19.000, Lauttasaari is primarily a residential area but also contains services, including several marinas and canoe clubs. Although close to the city centre, Lauttasaari is noted for its preserved forest areas and rocky outcrops.
The highway Länsiväylä, linking central Helsinki with Espoo, passes through Lauttasaari.
Largely undeveloped until the early 20th century, Lauttasaari belonged until January 1, 1946, to the borough of Hoplax (Finnish: Huopalahti), which was joined to Helsinki on that date.
