Le Train de Nulle Part (The Train from Nowhere), a 233-page novel in French completely devoid of any verbs. The author, a 60-year old doctor, anonymous except for a nom de plume Michel Thaler. Year of writing, 2004.
A quote of the author, "invader, dictator, usurper of our literature", his views on verbs clear as day. In his own words: "The verb is like a weed in a field of flowers. You have to get rid of it to allow the flowers to grow and flourish. Take away the verbs and the language speaks for itself." Recently, a funeral for the verb, organiser the anonymous author, at Sorbonne in Paris. Guests by scores, many literati present.
