The League Against Cruel Sports is a pressure group based in the United Kingdom that campaigns against blood sports, in particular fox hunting and hare coursing.
It was founded in 1924 by Henry Amos and Ernest Bell as the League for the Prohibition of Cruel Sports.
Recent successes are the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act, passed in 2002 by the Scottish Parliament, which outlaws hunting with dogs. In Westminister, the Wild Mammals (Hunting with Dogs) Bill passed the second reading in 1998, but was withdrawn by the proposer of the bill, Michael Foster after pressure for pro-hunting MPs. The Hunting Bill of 2001 was blocked in the House of Lords. In 2002, the House of Commons again voted in favour of a ban, but it was defeated again in the House of Lords.
