Location
The levator scapulae takes its origin from the posterior tubercles of the tranverse processes of the C1 to C4 vertebrae. It is inserted into the superior part of the medial border of the scapula.
Action
The levator scapulae elevates the scapula and tilts its glenoid cavity by rotating the scapula in the inferior direction.
Innervation
The levator scapulae is innervated by :
- cervical nerve (C3, C4)
- dorsal scapula nerve (C5)
Blood supply
The levator scapulae is supplied by the dorsal scapular artery
