Lewis Cubitt was born on 29 September 1799 and died on 9 June 1883. He married Sophia Kendall (1811-1879) on 23 January 1830.

He is one of a (somewhat confusing) family of Cubitts who were noted engineers and architects.

Lewis designed the London Kings Cross railway station which was built in 1851-2 and the associated railway hotel in 1854.
