Linate Airport - Definition and Overview

Linate Airport is the city airport of Milan, Italy. Due to its vicinity to Milan, it is mainly used for domestic and short-haul international flights. It has the IATA Airport Code LIN. Its name comes from the eponymous small town where it resides. Its real name is "Airport Enrico Forlanini", from the name of the Italian inventor and aereonautical pioneer born in Milan.

The other and larger airport serving Milano is Malpensa International Airport (IATA Airport Code MXP). Linate and Malpensa airports are connected by highways and by service buses.

Linate Airport was the site of the Linate Airport disaster on 8 October 2001, when Scandinavian Airlines Flight 686, which was bound for Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen, collided with a bizjet that had inadvertently taxied onto the runway in use during fog.
