Lindsey McDonald (Angel) - Definition

Lindsey McDonald was a fictional character on the WB Network television series Angel.

He appeared in the first episode, entitled City of... and was featured prominently in seasons 1, 2, and 5.

Lindsey is something of a tragic character, having been born into a dirt-poor dysfunctional family in Oklahoma. Lindsey worked very hard to overcome his upbringing and while a university student, was recruited by Wolfram & Hart, the evil law firm. He is quite handsome and his good looks are only surpassed by his ambition. Lindsey legally represented many a vampire and demon, and evil humans as well. He instantly hated Angel upon first contact. Early on, Lindsey was co-architect of a plan to hire renegade slayer Faith to kill Angel. Lindsey experienced a crisis of conscience in season one, which led him into a temporary alliance with Angel to prevent the killing of some innocent children. Lindsey was poised to leave Wolfram & Hart, but was wooed by a promotion and stayed, becoming an integral player in the plan to resurrect Darla. During the ensuing battle, Angel chopped off Lindsey's hand, further cementing his hatred for Angel.

Throughout early season two, Lindsey became enamored with human Darla, and was present when she was re-sired by Drusilla. His crush did not end when Darla became a vampire, and he was one of only two spared by Darla & Drusilla in the wine cellar massacre. Lindsey even went as far as to beat up Angel when he hurt Darla's feelings. After Darla left, Lindsey had another crisis of conscience, when he received a mystical hand transplant, and it turned out that the hand was evil. Lindsey went to Caritas and sang for the Host, not only proving that he is an excellent singer but also being pointed towards Angel. After finding out that his hand wasn't evil but rather suicidal (the "donor" was kept in storage by Wolfram & Hart) Lindsey decided to leave the firm permanently. He was not seen again for a couple years.

In season 5 Lindsey returned to Los Angeles covered in tattoos, which mystically masked his presence from the Senior Partners. He fell in love with Eve and hatched a plan to kill Angel, which included luring Spike away by pretending to be Doyle and sending Spike on staged missions. The plot was discovered by Angel with the help of (an astral projection of) Cordelia, and he was taken prisoner by the Senior Partners. During his incarceration, he was held in a dimension which emulated suburbia, complete with a cookie-cutter house and family. Time operated in a loop and every day he had his heart cut out by a demon hiding in the house's basement. He was eventually rescued by team Angel who needed information on the Senior Partners. He later revealed that he was attempting to become a member of the Circle of the Black Thorn, the senior partners' instrument on Earth. Having failed, Lindsey was persuaded by Angel to join the fight against the Circle. With a little assistance from Lorne, he dismembered the Sahrvin demon clan. However, Angel knew that Lindsey could never be trusted and that he would never be a force for good. Lorne's last mission for Team Angel was to kill Lindsey. With two bullets in the chest, a stunned Lindsey staggered to his death, ranting that he was supposed to be killed by Angel.
