Lingua Franca Nova is an auxiliary constructed language created by Dr. C. George Boeree of Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania. Lingua Franca Nova is based on French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Catalan. The language is phonemically spelled, using 21 letters of either Latin or Cyrillic alphabets.
The grammar is based on that of Romance Creoles: The past tense is indicated by the particle ia, the future by va, and the plural by the only grammatical suffix, -s (or -es after consonants). There is a strict word order.
Verbs may be used as nouns without change to mean a particular incident (such as the use of the word dance in English as both a verb and a noun), adjectives may be used as nouns with the sense of someone or something with the quality indicated, and adverbs are identical to the related adjectives. In addition, there are some suffixes and prefixes available for word-building.
Introductions are available in ten languages. There is a complete LFN-English dictionary, and an over 3000-word nine-language dictionary. Samples and details in several languages are also available from the homepage.
