M1 Line (Millennium Underground)
Built in 1896 (it was the first underground on the European continent), extended in 1973. It is usually marked yellow. According to schedule, it runs along in 11 minutes.

There is a planned extension towards Káposztásmegyer in the west and Ferihegy (Budapest airport) in the southeast, possibly by 2010.
M4 Line under construction
This line hasn't been built yet, there were political debates over it, and now its completion is scheduled to 2009-2010. Some squares and roads have been prepared for it. The dates refer to the plan.

Note: the name with the question mark is also the name of an existing underground station of M3, so it will probably be renamed.
There are plans to extend the line towards Újpalota in the east, and towards Budaörs in the west.
Planned suburban railways' connector line M5
In Hungarian Észak-déli Regionális Gyorsvasút (North-South Regional Rapid Railway; provisional name) will replace and connect the lines of the existing suburban railways (HÉV in Hungarian) between Szentendre, Csepel and Ráckeve, through Budapest downtown, and provide connection for the railway stations in the city. Its building will be started around 2007. It will probably have the following stations (except for the termini, only those within Budapest are included):
