List of Merritt Island launch sites - Definition

Merritt Island's two spaceports are shown side-by-side on this map.

Merritt Island, off of the eastern coast of Florida, is home to two spaceports, servicing several launch sites for rockets.

John F. Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center has one launch site with two pads. This was the site of the Saturn V launches, as well as those of the Space Shuttle.

Cape Canaveral Air Force Station

Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) was the site of all pre-Apollo manned launches, as well as many other important early Department of Defense (DoD) and NASA launches. For the DoD, it plays a secondary role to Vandenberg AFB in California, but is still the launch site for many NASA unmanned space probes, as those spacecraft are typically launched on Air Force launchers.

Much of the support activity for CCAFS occurs at nearby Patrick Air Force Base.
