This is a list of terms used worldwide for various types, kinds and degrees of multiracial background. Note many of these are offensive.
Many of these refer to specific mixed-race combinations only, and are not general terms for 'mixed race': for example Métis refers to a specific ethnic group of First Nation-European ancestry.
In Spanish America, very detailed vocabulary and charts (castas depicted in pintura de castas) were developed marking the proportions of White, Negro and Amerindian blood of an individual.
