The Lochaber axe was a scottish war axe that came into use around 1600. This was a heavy weapon with a short staff that resembled a bardiche or voulge in head design. The staff was usually some 5 feet long, and mounted with a 18 inch long broad head. The head was attached in two places and often had a sharp point coming off of the top. In addition a hook was attached to the reverse, supposedly used for scaling walls.
