Logan Circle - Definition

Logan Circle is a neighborhood in Washington, DC. The actual traffic circle is the intersection of 13th Street, P Street, and Rhode Island Avenue in Northwest, with a grassy area in the middle.

In the past decade the area has become gentrified. Housing costs have soared. The commercial corridor along 14th Street NW is undergoing significant revitalization.

The recent gentrification is reflected in the apparently vague boundries of the Logan Circle neighborhood. For example, many people in recent years will identify as living in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, even though they reside in areas traditionally considered to be a part of Logan Circle. New residents on 16th, 15th, and sometimes even 14th Streets will consider themselves part of the Dupont Circle neighborhood, even though Dupont Circle itself is intersected by 19th Street, whereas Logan Circle is intersected by the much closer 13th Street. The neighborhood residents identify with is usually a factor of both class and race, as this area continues to be on one of the front lines of gentrification in the District.
