London Journal - Definition and Overview |
Boswell's London Journal is his second most popular work, after his Life of Johnson. Its popularity stems more from its sexual candor, particularly in two notorious sequences:
- When he starts dating an actress, and brags to all his friends about how they had sex five times on their first night together.
- When he gets the clap from a prostitute (Bosworth contracted gonorrhoea 17 times in his life) and presents her with the doctor's bill for his treatment.
Martin Scorcese cites this latter sequence as his favorite part of the book, and is considering making a film out of the book. [1] (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041212/ESSAYS/412120302))
