Long Beach Township is a Walsh Act township located in Ocean County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 3,329.
Geography
gAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 57.0 km² (22.0 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 43.2 km² (16.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 75.90% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,329 people, 1,664 households, and 1,038 families residing in the township. The population density is 242.1/km² (627.3/mi²). There are 9,023 housing units at an average density of 656.1/km² (1,700.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.53% White, 0.24% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 2.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,664 households out of which 12.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% are non-families. 33.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.00 and the average family size is 2.50.
In the township the population is spread out with 11.7% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 17.9% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 36.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 57 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $48,697, and the median income for a family is $59,833. Males have a median income of $41,681 versus $31,528 for females. The per capita income for the township is $33,404. 5.1% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
