Lord Jim - Definition and Overview |
Lord Jim is a 1900 novel by Joseph Conrad.
Stylistically, it is narrated by Marlow, a recurring character in the Conrad oeuvre, who is sympathetic to the protagonist, Lord Jim.
Lord Jim is widely considered a post-colonial novel because it deals with Africa and Asia and looks at them through an acultural point of view. Lord Jim deals with his lack of courage and what it means for himself and others around him.
Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group were very much affected by this work, Conrad's first major novel.
