Loreto is the Italian word for laurel-wood. There are many towns by that name, among which:
- Loreto, in Ancona province, a town with a Marian shrine that is the origin of the wide dissemination of the name
- Loreto (AT), in Asti province
- Loreto (NO), in Novara province
- Loreto (PG, 1), in Perugia province
- Loreto (PG, 2), also in Perugia province
- Loreto Aprutino, in Pescara province

The Marian shrine has also given its name to very many schools and colleges throughout the world.
