Louise of Sweden - Definition and Overview

Queen Louise Alexandra Marie Irene of Sweden (13 July, 1889 - 7 March 1965) was the second wife of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden.

She was born as Her Serene Highness Princess Louise of Battenberg, and was known as Lady Louise Mountbatten after renouncing all German titles in 1917, during World War I. On 3 November 1923 she married His Royal Highness Oskar Fredrik Wilhelm Olaf Gustav Adolf, Duke of Scania, Crown Prince of Sweden, later King Gustav VI Adolf.

Queen Louise was the second of the four children of Count Louis Alexander of Battenberg, later Admiral of the Fleet, later Louis Mountbatten, first Marquess of Milford Haven and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

Louise died 7th March 1965 within 3 weeks of her death her cousin Mary Princess Royal Countness of Harewood who daugther of King George 5th & Queen Mary who attended the funeral on behalf of the Queen died in her son George 7th Earl of Harewoods arms
