Louny - Definition and Overview

Louny (German: Laun) is city in Ústí nad Labem Region of Czech Republic. Population is 20,812 (1991).

History

The city was founded in 12th century (first known written record in from 1115). It grew up during reign of Premysl Otakar II. Thirty Years War depopulated the city. Second half of 19th century saw economic growth of the area.

Architecture of the city was shaped mainly in 19th and 20th century when many old buildings were teared down.
