Luca Pacioli - Definition

Fra Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli Italian mathematician (c. 1445 - 1517) Luca Pacioli first published the 'Venetian method' of keeping accounts known as 'Double-entry book-keeping'. He became a Franciscan friar in the 1470s. He was a travelling mathematics teacher until in 1497 he accepted an invitation by Lodovico Sforza to work in Milan where he collaborated with Leonardo da Vinci. He published a number of works on mathematics: Summa de arithmetica, geometrica, proportioni et proportionalita (Venice 1494). In which he describes 'double entry book-keeping'. Geometry (1509) a Latin translation of Euclid. Divina proprotione (Venice 1509). A work on mathematical and artistic proportion that contains some illustrations by Leonardo.
