Luminal - Definition and Overview |
|
|
Luminal is the adjective used to describe things pertaining to the lumen of hollow structures.
Luminal is also a chemical that is best known as a forensic tool.
Its most famous property is that when it is applied on a surface where the presence of blood is suspected, it will display the presence of the blood element, hemoglobin, under ultraviolet lights regardless of how much effort was taken before hand to remove with cleaners like detergents.
However, blood exposed to Luminal breaks down and makes it useless for analysis. That means a full manual search for blood must take place before the decision is made to use Luminal.
