The Métro Lyon, 1978 open, is one of the few undergrounds, with which there is a line, which drives on a former gear wheel distance.
History
The largest part of the underground net in Lyon was opened 1978. Because equivalent 3 lines were released to traffic at one time at that time. The line A drives from Perrache to Laurent Bonnevay. This distance were not up to now ever extended. The b-line was opened at that time between Charpennes and part Dieu. Whereupon there were still two extensions toward the south: 1981 to Jean Macé and 2000 to Stade de Gerland. The line C was opened 1978 between Hôtel de Ville and Croix Croix-Paquet. 1984 were extended it to Cuire. Here is also the distance of the former rack railway between Croix Paquet and Croix Rousse with the steepest subway railway station of Europe (Croix Paquet with 17% upward gradient). 4. Underground line was opened to 1991, the line D. It is at 13 km the longest Lyoner underground line. At first the distance of Gorge de Loup led after Grange Blanche, 1992 gave it an extension to refines de Vénissieux and 1997 one to refines de Vaise. The line D is one of the few automatic underground lines of the world. The underground is also "Maggaly" mentioned, this derived from the French designation Métro automatique à grand gabarit de lagglomération lyonaise. One can compare the system with those in Lille, Toulouse or also Paris.
Future plannings
The A-line is to be extended by a station toward the east, since a connection will be available to the airport to a new strassenbahnlinie there. The station will be called La Soie and is 2006 to be opened. The line B is to run from Stade de Gerland to Ollioules and to underrun the river Rhône. This project was however postponed again and again, so that the completion date is unclear.
Others
In Lyon there are also still 2 functioning aerial ropeways beside the u and streetcar. The one leads from the underground station Vieux Lyon after Fourvière. On the distance one came the old part of town Lyons very beautifully sees. The other one drives from Vieux Lyon to St-Just. At this one can see a Roman theatre, as well as visit a gallo Roman museum.
