MCAS - Definition and Overview

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System is a standardized test adminstered by the Massachusetts Department of Education based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. These test were first adminstered in May, 1998, to students in grades 4,8 & 10. In 2001, the test were then adminstered to students in all grades from 3rd to 7th and grade 10. Beginning with the Class of 2003, successful completion of the mathematics and English portions of the MCAS is required before a student can graduate.
